About us
Spore.Bio is a deeptech startup born in 2023, building a new paradigm in quality control systems for Food & Beverage, Cosmetics, and Pharmaceutical factories. After spending a lot of time in factory environments, we saw the pain it was to make sure products were safe. Traditional quality control has heavy constraints and long waiting times. To change that, we decided to build Spore.Bio, a new generation of microbiological testing. Our team is dedicated to developing a cutting-edge solution, based on advanced photonic and deep-learning technologies, to detect bacterial contamination within minutes.
About the role
Ready to revolutionize industrial microbiology?
At Spore.Bio, we're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work on the design and industrialization of our breakthrough devices. Reporting into the R&D team, you'll own the most complex technical challenges, drive structuring design decisions, and help take our prototypes to scalable, manufacturable products.
What You Will Do
You'll lead advanced mechanical design of our devices: rethinking the architecture of existing prototypes, designing custom mechanical parts, and making high-impact design trade-offs that shape product performance and reliability.
You'll drive optical-mechanical integration, working closely with R&D to ensure optical and mechanical constraints are aligned from the earliest design stages.
You'll define the scale-up strategy for machines in development, anticipating series-production constraints, and challenging design choices through a Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
You'll manage supplier relationships on critical parts, from requirement definition through quality validation, owning technical trade-offs and production follow-up.
You'll help shape the mechanical team's methods and best practices.
About you
Master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, with substantial experience (3-5+ years) in mechanical design, ideally in a rapid prototyping environment with small-series production.
Strong CAD proficiency (SolidWorks or equivalent) and solid knowledge of manufacturing technologies (3D printing, CNC machining, etc.).
Proven experience integrating optical components; expertise in opto-mechanical design is a strong plus.
Excellent knowledge of materials and their properties, with the ability to make well-argued technical trade-offs.
Demonstrated track record in product industrialization, from prototype to small-scale industrial production.
Autonomy, initiative, and the ability to thrive in a fast-changing environment, comfortable challenging assumptions and proposing innovative solutions to complex technical problems.
Why Join Spore Bio
Be part of an innovative and rapidly growing startup at the intersection of biotech, photonics, and AI.
Work on exciting, impactful projects that address global challenges.
Evolve in a collaborative, stimulating work environment with plenty of autonomy.
Enjoy opportunities for professional growth and continuous training.
Benefits: Meal vouchers, Gymlib access, and a great team spirit !
What we offer
We believe that flexibility and trust are important parts of a company. Our work environment reflects this:
Flexible remote: if you live in Paris, you can work from our office or from home with no constraints.
Remote work equipment: a dedicated budget to set up your workspace.
Gymlib subscription to stay in shape wherever you are.
Premium health insurance (Alan) for comprehensive coverage.
Swile card for your meals, if you are based in France.
Location: Paris, on-site.
Our Recruitment Process
Fit Interview (~30 min): A casual call to get to know each other, explore your experience, understand what drives you, and align on expectations. It's also your chance to ask anything about Spore Bio and the role.
Technical Case Study (Presentation): A hands-on challenge reflecting the exact types of engineering problems you would face on the job. We care about your reasoning, methodology, and instincts—not textbook answers.
Culture-Fit Discussion: A dedicated chat with a Spore Bio collaborator to ensure our values, vision, and team dynamics match what you're looking for.
On-site Interview & Lab Visit: A comprehensive immersion day at our Paris headquarters. You will visit the optics lab and assembly area, see our systems in action, and meet the founders. This final step is as much for you to audit us as it is for us to choose you!
This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants to grow in a dynamic environment, take on diverse challenges, and make a tangible impact.
