Senior Field Service Engineer
About Us
Spore.Bio is a deeptech start-up born in 2023, building a new paradigm in the quality control systems in Food&Beverage, Cosmetics, and Pharmaceutics factories.
After spending a lot of time in factories environments, we saw the pain it was to make sure products were safe. Traditional quality control has heavy constraints and long waiting times. To change that, we decided to build Spore.Bio, a new generation of microbiological testing.
Our team is dedicated to bringing technology and developing a cutting-edge solution, based on advanced optical and deep-learning technologies, to detect bacterial contamination within seconds.
Are you the engineer who sees a complex system and wants to understand every layer of it - optics, mechanics, electronics, software - and then make it work flawlessly in the real world?
Spore.Bio is building technology that has never existed before: a multimodal biophotonics platform that brings AI-powered microbiology monitoring to industrial production lines. It is running today in some of the most demanding factories in food, pharma, and cosmetics. And we are just getting started.
We are looking for a Senior Field Service Engineer who will own the field: technically, operationally, and as a team builder. You will deploy cutting-edge instrumentation at client sites across the world, set the standard for how it is commissioned and maintained, and build the team that will scale those operations to industrial size. Your insights from the field will feed directly into the product. Your standards will define how the next generation of FSEs operates.
This is not a job description. It is an invitation to build something.
Your Mission
You take full technical and operational responsibility for our deployed fleet: reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement. At the same time, you build and mature the field service organisation itself - the processes, the tooling, and the people - so that complex problems become solvable by technicians, not just engineers.
What You Will Do
Deployments and commissioning
Lead and validate machine deployments at customer sites across food, pharma, cosmetics and medical industries.
Define and enforce commissioning standards, acceptance criteria, and handover protocols.
Ensure reliability from day one, with structured documentation and sign-off procedures.
Team building and industrialisation
Recruit, onboard, and develop field service engineers and technicians as the team scales.
Drive the transition from expert-led ad-hoc deployments to repeatable, documented, transferable operations.
Build the procedures, training materials, and tooling that allow technicians to handle what today requires engineers.
Technical escalation and R&D feedback
Be the final point of escalation for complex field issues spanning optics, electronics, mechanics, and software.
Diagnose root causes rigorously and feed structured, actionable insights back to R&D and product teams.
Contribute to the product roadmap from a field reality perspective.
Fleet and customer operations
Oversee the deployed fleet: maintenance planning, remote monitoring, logistics, and field reporting.
Build trusted relationships with key customer contacts. Represent Spore Bio as a technically credible and reliable partner.
Define operational KPIs and drive continuous improvement across the team.
Your Profile
Technical background
Engineering degree in optronics, mechatronics, instrumentation, applied physics, or a related field.
5–8 years in field service, systems engineering, or a comparable technical role working with complex multi-disciplinary systems.
Strong foundation in either optics/photonics or mechatronics/instrumentation — comfortable spanning across both and into embedded electronics and software.
Experience with scientific or analytical instruments, special machines, or advanced industrial hardware is strongly valued. Life sciences or biotech exposure is a plus, not a requirement.
Field and operational experience
Proven track record of customer-facing field deployments: you have owned installations end to end, managed expectations on site, and delivered reliable outcomes.
You have lived through at least one transition from prototype or early-deployment phase to structured, scalable operations. You know what that transition demands in terms of documentation, tooling, and people.
Leadership and communication
Experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating a technical team in field or operational contexts, whether formally or informally.
Comfortable communicating with factory operators, QA managers, PhD researchers, and executive stakeholders - adapting register without losing technical precision.
Autonomous, structured, and capable of sound technical and operational judgement under pressure, in the field, without escalating every issue.
English proficiency required. French is a plus.
Why Spore Bio
A senior role with genuine scope: own the field, shape the team, influence the product roadmap.
Novel technology at the intersection of biophotonics, AI, and industrial automation; there is nothing quite like it.
You build the field operations function, not just contribute to it. The team that exists in three years is largely the one you hire and train.
A technically serious environment with strong R&D foundations and the commercial momentum to scale internationally.
Benefits include meal vouchers, Gymlib, and more.
If you are a senior engineer who wants to lead from the field, technically, operationally, and as a team builder, we want to hear from you.
