# Lab Manager

**Company:** Spore.Bio
**Department:** Microbiology Team
**Location:** Paris
**Employment type:** Full-time

### **About us**

[Spore.Bio](http://Spore.Bio) is a deeptech startup born in 2023, building a new paradigm in quality control systems for Food & Beverage, Cosmetics, and Pharmaceutical factories. After spending a lot of time in factory environments, we saw the pain it was to make sure products were safe. Traditional quality control has heavy constraints and long waiting times. To change that, we decided to build [Spore.Bio](http://Spore.Bio), a new generation of microbiological testing. Our team is dedicated to developing a cutting-edge solution, based on advanced photonic and deep-learning technologies, to detect bacterial contamination within seconds.

### **About the role**

At [Spore.Bio](http://Spore.Bio), the lab is not a support function. It is where our technology gets built, tested, and validated every day. As our Lab Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring our laboratories operate efficiently, safely, and at scale to support fast-moving R&D teams working at the intersection of microbiology, hardware, and AI. You will work closely with scientists and engineers across multiple disciplines, building the infrastructure, processes, and operational standards that allow cutting-edge innovation to happen without friction.

### **Key Responsibilities**

_Daily operations_

- Own and optimise day-to-day laboratory operations to support fast-paced R&D environment.

- Coordinate shared equipment usage and support onboarding for new lab users.

- Partner closely with technical teams to anticipate and support evolving laboratory needs.

_Inventory & supply chain_

- Manage consumables, inventory, and supplier relationships to ensure operational continuity.

- Coordinate purchasing, vendors, and lab logistics in a scaling environment, ensuring reliable tracking, timely replenishment, and continuity of critical laboratory supplies.

_Equipment & infrastructure_

- Oversee qualification, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment.

- Contribute to the optimisation and automation of laboratory operations through workflow improvements and scalable operational processes.

_Safety & compliance_

- Ensure compliance with biosafety, GMO, and laboratory safety regulations.

- Develop and maintain SOPs, safety documentation, and training procedures.

### **About you**

- 5+ years of experience in laboratory management or lab operations.

- Strong hands-on background in microbiology, ideally in industrial biotech, QC, or applied R&D environments.

- Solid knowledge of laboratory safety, biosafety, and compliance standards.

- Highly organised, proactive, and comfortable in fast-paced environments.

- Experience supporting multidisciplinary technical teams is a strong plus.

- Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

**Soft Skills & Mindset**

- Operationally sharp: you build systems that make the lab run smoothly even when everything else is moving fast.

- Anticipatory: you spot what is about to run out, break, or fall through the cracks before it does.

- Collaborative: you are as comfortable talking to a microbiologist as to a hardware engineer or a founder.

_We don't expect you to have seen everything before. What matters most is your ability to bring structure and reliability to a lab environment that is growing fast and pushing the boundaries of what microbiology can do._

### **Why join us?**

- Work at the frontier of microbiology, photonics, and AI applied to a critical real-world problem.

- Build the operational backbone of a world-class R&D lab from the ground up.

- Collaborate with exceptional scientists, engineers, and AI researchers.

- Evolve in a collaborative, ambitious, and high-standards environment.

- Autonomy, visibility, and tangible impact from day one.

### **What we offer**

We believe that flexibility and trust are important parts of a company. Our work environment reflects this:

- **Flexible remote:** you can work from our office or from home with no constraints.

- **Gymlib subscription** to stay in shape wherever you are.

- **Premium health insurance** (Alan) for comprehensive coverage.

- **Swile card** for your meals, if you are based in France.

**Recruitment process**

1. **Fit interview** (~30 min): A call to get to know each other, your experience, what drives you, and what you're looking for. It's also your chance to ask anything about [Spore.Bio](http://Spore.Bio) and the role.

2. **Technical case study** (take-home + review): A practical scenario reflecting the kind of operational challenges you would face: lab setup, inventory management, or safety compliance. We care about your reasoning and your instincts, not textbook answers.

3. **On-site interview** + Lab visit + Founders meeting: ~2 hours at our Paris office. You will meet the founders, visit the lab, and see the technology in action. This is as much for you as it is for us.
